Fundraising Campaign
Construction began in July 2009 on the new MHP Hospice Serenity House, thanks to a successful capital campaign. To date, more than $2.6 million has been raised from the community. Because of the overwhelming support the Serenity House continues to receive, MHP officials were able to incorporate additional features to the house, such as a basement, larger patient rooms and geothermal climate control.

"By building a hospice house in Oskaloosa, we are improving our community today and for future generations. An investment in a local hospice house is an investment in humanity, because people are entitled to live and die with dignity. Almost everyone in our surrounding communities knows someone who could have benefitted from the comfort, support and dignity that a local hospice house could provide. No matter what your race, religion or socio-economic status, each and every one of us will face death. When that time comes, for us or for a loved one, it is comforting to know that we will be able to access skilled and compassionate care in our community, surrounded by family and friends." David Ahmad, Campaign Chair |
The additions to the Serenity House were made after staff from Mahaska Hospice visited other facilities and determined best practices for hospice patients. The cost of the MHP Hospice Serenity House is now more than $3.5 million, but MHP officials believe the community will be fully behind the additions, which will make the facility better for future generations.
