Realizing the Dream
With a strong core of healthcare professionals and dedicated volunteers, Mahaska Hospice continues to receive tremendous support from the community and grateful family members. More than $400,000 in financial support has been donated over the years, and has been set aside to fulfill a big dream, to build a local Hospice House.
The main partner for this building project is the MHP Foundation, but the project is unquestionably community-driven. With recent commitments, funds from the MHP Hospice Foundation and Hospice Community Funds committed by the MHP Board of Trustees, we have already raised $2.6 million for the house. The cost is now estimated at $3.5 million.
In identifying the need for a local Hospice House, discussions were held with the medical community, local clergy, hospice personnel and local funeral home directors, as well as interested community members who are willing to offer financial support.
Land has been identified on Mahaska Health Partnership’s campus, north of the Medical Specialty Center. In designing the rendering, architects toured the surrounding residential homes to assure the house blended into the neighborhood.
