New Directions: Depression
The following questions are some of the most commonly asked when a mental health professional is assessing whether or not an individual suffer from depression.
- Do you feel depressed on most days for the majority of the day?
- Have you noticed having less interest or pleasure in usual activities?
- Have you experience significant increase or decreases in appetite, weight, or both?
- Are you experiencing sleep difficulties, either insomnia or excessive sleepiness nearly every day?
- Are you experiencing a loss of energy and a daily sense of tiredness?
- Do you have a sense of guilt and worthlessness nearly all of the time?
- Are you experiencing the inability to concentrate nearly every day
- Do you have recurrent thoughts of death or suicide?
- Do you withdraw from, or avoid people?
- Do you see the future as hopeless?
A mental health specialists, such as a psychiatrist, social worker, or psychologist is the best source for a diagnosis of depression.
