Sleep Diagnostic Program:

How is the pressure found for home use?

How often does the individual use CPAP?

If the individual's physician has recommended CPAP treatment for OSA, a CPAP evaluation will be done through the Mahaska Hospital SLeep Diagnostic Program. On occasion, physicians recommend a split-night (diagnosis/treatment) evaluation. This study will require the individual to be awoken within two to three hours after they initially start sleeping if they do suffer from OSA. The technician will administer the CPAP device for the remaining three to four hours of the study.

After educating and fitting the individual for CPAP, the technician will apply all the standard electrodes for the sleep study and monitor them from a nearby room. The technician will increase and decrease pressures to ensure an optimal pressure for CPAP to eliminate all apneic/hypopneic events while sleeping in all body positions and sleep stages.

The individual will need to use CPAP only during the time they normally sleep. They will receive thorough instructions during their Mahaska Hospital Sleep Diagnostic Program visit, and from their medial equipment provider before using it at home.

The individual and their family will learn how to connect tubing and valves in addition to how to operate the blower unit. With proper training the equipment is easy to use.
