Keokuk County Hospice Renovations Complete

When you are sick or experiencing pain, and looking for comfort, there’s really no place like home. The Keokuk County Hospice Auxiliary understands the importance of this and used it as inspiration recently when renovating the Keokuk County Hospice room.

“The room, which is decorated with lighter colors, creates a relaxing environment for patients and family members,” said Keokuk County Hospice Auxiliary Secretary, Marie Tremmel.

Keokuk County Hospice Auxiliary Secretary, Marie Tremmel presents a check for $2,500 to Keokuk County Hospice Patient Care Coordinator, Mary McCammant. The donation was a portion of the proceeds from the auxiliary's golf tournament and raffle of a P. Buckley Moss print.

Tremmel was just one of many individuals involved in the renovation project. Shirley and Stanley VanderHoek of Fremont reupholstered the couch and chair, while Heather Smithart and Jim Kerr wallpapered the room. In addition, new curtains were hung as well as pictures, which were donated by individuals associated with Keokuk County Hospice. A CD player, which was given to Keokuk County Hospice by family members of a past Hospice patient, is also available for patients to use.

According to Keokuk County Hospice Patient Care Coordinator, Mary McCammant, “We wanted to create an atmosphere that encouraged family to spend more time with their loved ones.”

The project was made possible in part by proceeds from the raffle of a P. Buckley Moss print as well as a golf tournament, which were both put on by the Keokuk County Hospice Auxiliary.
