Medical Nutrition Therapy
The Medical Nutrition Therapy department offers a variety of inpatient and outpatient services provided by registered, licensed dietitians.
Inpatient services
Inpatient services are provided in the patient's room and include nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and education to all patients needing nutrition therapy and/or special diet education.
Desired nutrition outcomes include the following:
- Improvements in food and nutrient intake by special menu selections, supplements, and nutrition support, as needed.
- Improved nutrition status for healing and health maintenance
- Individualized nutrition education to prevent or delay further nutrition related conditions or diseases.
Outpatient services
Outpatient services are provided in a variety of settings and include the following individual nutrition therapy, education and follow-up for:
- Type I and II Diabetes
- Gestational Diabetes
- Chronic Renal Disease (non-dialysis and post transplant)
- Age 20 and under nutritional counseling for various conditions including obesity, failure to thrive, breastfeeding problems, and developmental disorders
- Elderly waiver home visits
- Cardiac conditions
- Other special diets
Group nutrition therapy and classes:
- Diabetes WISE (complete diabetes education program certified by the American Diabetes Association)
- Diabetes Support Group
- Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Vision Quest nutrition activities
- Presentations for community groups or businesses
