“I feel very privileged to be part of an organization that not only provides excellent health care, but also fosters wellness and assist in life’s milestones.”
Barb Sandegren, Ultrasonographer
While receiving treatments in the CCIC, patients and their family members have the opportunity to relax while they sit outside in Rett's Place. The beautiful plants and flowers that fill this area, located just outside the CCIC, are starter plants from the garden of former MHP employee, Loretta Rice. Loretta touched the lives of many patients over the course of 33 years when she was a LPN in MHP's ER, Birthing Center and Inpatient Services. She displayed sincere kindness toward her patients, as well as her co-workers.
Loretta not only had compassion for her patients, but she did for gardening as well.

In 2003, Loretta was diagnosed with cancer. Before she passed away, she marked
specific plants in her garden, which were to be
placed on the patio outside the CCIC. The Mahaska County Gardeners, as well as many other people in the community, donated their time, gathered the starters and planted them in the garden. In appreciation for Loretta's many contributions and dedication to MHP, the garden is respectfully named Rett's Place.
If you would like to learn more about how Loretta impacted the lives of many individuals in the community, or if you would like to experience Rett’s Place for yourself, please stop by the CCIC for a tour. Our staff would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
