“I have the opportunity to work with patients and their families during their hospital stay to provide information and referrals for a safe transition to their home or another living environment.”
Laura Doscher, Discharge Planning
Policy/Standard of Care:
MHP recognizes that family and friends are an important part of our patient’s support system and having them visit while the patient is hospitalized may be vital to the patient’s recovery. Accordingly, MHP encourages visitors to the inpatient care areas following the guidelines outlined below.
Patients are encouraged to remain on the nursing unit except with permission of the nursing staff to visit the lobby, coffee shop or dining area.
Procedure/Standard of Practice:
The patient’s physician and/or nursing staff may restrict visitors at any time according to patient’s care needs or by the patient’s request.
Visitors will comply with standard precautions and all other isolation precautions that the patient may be on. Nursing staff will provide instruction to the patient and/or visitor on proper hand washing and the use of any personal protective equipment as applicable. During an influenza (flu) outbreak, visitors may be limited.
Birthing Center:
No restrictions on visiting hours. If visitors have any symptoms of illness such as cough, fever or runny nose, we ask that they not enter the Birthing Center.
Emergency Room:
Every effort will be made to allow family members to remain with patients during the ER stay. However, due to privacy or the condition of the patient, family members may be asked to leave the ER area. The number of family members present may be limited due to space limitations in ER and/or to ensure privacy for other patients.
Critical Care Unit:
Restricted to family only, age 14 or older. No more than two visitors at one time for thirty minute periods between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 P.M. Special arrangements may be made for non-family visitors. Clergy may visit at any time according to the patient’s and family’s wishes.
Surgical Services:
Visitors are limited to the One-Day Unit.
